Speech Therapy
Speech-language therapy is the treatment for children and adults with speech and/or language disorders. A speech disorder refers to a problem with the actual production of sounds, whereas a language disorder refers to a difficulty understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas.
Our speech/language pathologists provide evaluation and treatment of a wide variety of disorders, far beyond those that most are familiar with like speech impediments and stuttering. Recently, VitalStim®, a leading edge technology that helps patients who have trouble swallowing or speaking, was added to their arsenal of therapies. This non-invasive treatment, which uses a low level electrical current to stimulate the throat muscles, is especially effective when combined with swallowing or speech exercises. In order to be able to offer VitalStim®, our speech/language pathologists had to undergo a vigorous certification process, including intensive classes, labs, testing and actual practical experience. Finding this breakthrough treatment and the clinicians certified to provide it is rare. It places Milford Regional in the very forefront of the very latest speech/language therapies.
