Friday, October 1, has been set as the mandatory date for all healthcare workers, including employees, medical staff, volunteers, students, and contractors working onsite at all Milford Regional facilities system-wide to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
With the Delta variant taking hold in many areas, we at Milford Regional believe it is the responsibility of the medical community now more than ever to assume a leadership role in taking action that mitigates the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and its variants on our patients and community. With over 170 million people fully vaccinated in the United States, the vaccine has been the primary success against COVID-19.
Our medical experts including the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief of Infectious Diseases, Medical Director of Milford Regional Physician Group (MRPG), our medical staff leadership and the Medical Executive Committee have been in active discussion concerning this critical matter. Taking into account the scientific rationale provided by our medical experts, the endorsement of numerous medical associations, and recent FDA approval of the Pfizer Vaccine, we are joining other healthcare systems in our state and throughout the country in the decision to require all employees of Milford Regional Healthcare System be vaccinated against COVID-19. Exceptions to the mandated vaccine will be considered for religious and medical reasons.
The health and well being of our employees, patients and community is the driving force behind the decision to mandate the COVID-19 vaccination as we did the flu vaccination in 2020. Both vaccines ensure the best protection against contracting these virulent viruses.
