First Steps

From the very first step we want you to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, so Milford Regional is here for you from the moment you discover that you are pregnant.

Pre-Natal Evaluation

Your practitioner will monitor the growth and development of your baby throughout your pregnancy. Sometimes additional testing, such as non-stress, amniocentesis, ultrasonography or oxytocin challenge testing will be ordered. These tests may be performed in your practitioner’s office or at Milford Regional. Labor management during labor and delivery may include coping strategies, the use of pain medication and/or epidural anesthesia. Be sure to discuss these methods with your practitioner during your pre-natal visits. You’ll also learn more about labor management at your childbirth education classes.

Choosing Your Baby’s Doctor

Before delivery, take this special time to choose your baby’s doctor. Here is comprehensive information about Milford Regional’s pediatricians. Learn more about each of our pedicatricians.

The Baby Steps Program

Milford Regional has a program designed to help prepare families to care for their newborn that has been exposed to medications, drugs or alcohol. This includes patients in treatment using methadone or subutex/suboxone. Our focus is to provide information and support during your pregnancy, during your hospital stay and after you go home.

We encourage patients to make an appointment to meet with the Care Coordinator so that we can review what to expect when it is time to deliver your baby. We usually have a social worker and pediatrician attend the meeting as well so that all of your questions will be answered. If you plan to breasfeed, we will have a lactation consultant available for questions too. If it is your first time delivering with us we will give you a tour of our Maternity Center while you are here.
