George sustained a hand fracture from tripping on the sidewalk. His hand swelled and he lost range of motion, sending him to the emergency department at Milford Regional.
While ice skating, Becky fell on her arm and her hand caught her fall. She knew her my arm was messed up since she was experiencing lots of pain.
While Jim was lifting a 180 pound barbell, his left wrist got stuck between his body and the bar. He heard and felt a pop and in 30 seconds his wrist swelled to twice its size.

I decided to become a hand surgeon because I like the fact that hand surgery allows me to do lots of different kinds of procedures including arthroscopic, microsurgery, and treating many different conditions. I see a mixture of athletes, non-athletes, elderly patients, and children. There is a wide variety of patients with upper extremity injuries and conditions.
I believe my greatest strength as a physician is the ability to put myself in the place of the patient and understand their needs and concerns. It makes it a much better partnership when you understand where the patient is coming from and have empathy.
I enjoy talking to people. Every patient I meet is interesting in different ways, and that is what gets me through the day – getting to know my patients and finding out something interesting about them.
