MILFORD REGIONAL OFFERING BREASTFEEDING CLASSES AND FREE SUPPORT GROUP FOR NEW MOMS

Beginning in April, Milford Regional Medical Center will offer an in-person prenatal breastfeeding class and a free breastfeeding support group for new moms.

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

Breastfeeding doesn’t always come easy to new mothers who are learning how to feed their newborns. Milford Regional’s prenatal breastfeeding class will cover how the body produces breastmilk, how to establish and maintain one’s milk supply, how to sustain a comfortable latch and what to expect the first few days of breastfeeding. The class will also review the many breastfeeding positions, infant feeding patterns, pumping, when to give a bottle and how to store breast milk. Expectant moms will learn all about breastfeeding and how to set up a solid foundation for a successful feeding journey. This class will be led by lactation consultant Danielle Donovan, RN, BSN, IBCLC

Dates: First Tuesday of Each Month. (First class will be held Tuesday, April 2)

Time: 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Cost: $80

Breastfeeding is Beautiful Support Group

Breastfeeding is Beautiful is a free feeding support group for breastfeeding moms and their babies. This peer-to-peer group will be led by a lactation consultant, Danielle Donovan, RN, BSN, IBCLC. Topics may include, but are not limited to, navigating the early weeks of breastfeeding, nighttime feedings, common challenges that can arise during your feeding journey, coping with myths, combining breastfeeding, pumping and returning to work.

The nurturing environment offers an opportunity for breastfeeding women to support and encourage each other. We ask that you are respectful of all participants and the facilitator and are tolerant of parenting styles that may differ from your own. Please note that this group is for peer support and is not the right setting for a full consultation. Information provided in the group setting does not replace an existing feeding plan or care instructions from your healthcare provider. An infant scale will be available to weigh your baby.

Dates: The first Friday of each month. (First support group will be held Friday, April 5)

Time: 10 - 11:30 a.m.

No Cost

Milford Regional also offers childbirth education classes, a free postpartum support group and a free Parent Talk support group.

Space is limited. Registration is required for all classes and support groups. To register, visit milfordregional.org and select “Classes and Events” on the home page and then “Childbirth Education.” For questions, contact Milford Regional Public Relations and Community Benefits Manager Michelle Sanford at msanford@milreg.org or 508-422-2827.
