Milford Regional Expands its Surgical Technology with Two Additional da Vinci Robotic Systems
Milford Regional Medical Center continues to establish the highest standards when it comes to patient care. Recently, the hospital strengthened its surgical technology and capability by adding two more da Vinci Xi™ robotic systems to help meet the growing demand for surgical services.
The da Vinci Xi™ robotic system is state-of-the-art technology that allows a surgeon to sit at a nearby console to view 3D images of the surgical site and maneuver the arms of the robotic instruments inside the body of the patient.
“Having three da Vinci Xi™ systems is confirmation that Milford Regional has the most advanced resources available to help us provide the best and safest care we can to our patients,” said MRMC Chairman of the Department of Surgery Dr. Patrick McEnaney.
In 2013, Milford Regional acquired its first da Vinci Xi™. Over the summer, the hospital added two more da Vinci systems, helping to expand its minimally-invasive surgical procedures while also providing optimal outcomes for patients including less invasive surgeries, smaller incisions, quicker recoveries and shorter length of stays in the hospital resulting in lower costs to the patient.
Recent data has shown that a hernia patient’s length of stay can decrease by a full day if the da Vinci Xi™ is utilized.
The da Vinci Xi™ is more technologically advanced than its predecessor, the da Vinci Si™. The more advanced system allows for greater range of motion and reach for the surgeon; expands capabilities giving the surgeon the ability to complete tasks during surgery such as stapling the abdomen; uses new imaging technology enabling the surgeon to view and assess anatomy better than the naked eye; and has improved 3-D vision, a magnified view of the body, greater dexterity and unmatched precision.
Since 2013, Milford Regional has performed approximately 2,400 surgeries utilizing the robotic technology.
The robotic surgical system can be used for certain general, genecology and urology surgeries as well as weight loss and thoracic surgeries.
