Robert L. Kilroy Named Chairman of Milford Regional Medical Center's Board of Trustees
Noted attorney Robert L. Kilroy was unanimously elected to serve as chairman of Milford Regional Medical Center's Board of Trustees by fellow Board members recently. Former Chairman John Burns, president of Black Brook Realty in Hopkinton, will now assume the role Bob held previously as vice-chairman.
As a partner at the law firm of Mirick, O’Connell, DeMallie & Lougee, LLP, where he serves as chairman of the firm’s Labor, Employment and Employee Benefits Group and as a member of the firm's Health Law Group, Bob has successfully litigated cases in federal and state courts throughout New England. He has been named a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer” by Boston Magazine and Law & Politics for the past five years, and had been named a “Rising Star” for the prior three consecutive years. Prior to his career in law, Bob served 10 years active duty as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was awarded four medals for leadership excellence.
Bob's desire to become actively involved in a charitable organization near his home led him to participate in Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation's quarterly Business Breakfasts over a decade ago. Soon after, he joined the Foundation's Mélange Committee, which oversees the premier, annual fundraising gala to support Hospital programs and services. Bob then served on the Foundation's Board, first as vice-chairman and then chairman during one of the Board's most successful capital campaigns, which raised over $25 million towards Milford Regional's recent expansion project.
Bob's primary focus for the Board during his tenure as chairman is a commitment to ensure patient safety and quality care. His dedication to this cause was evident in his involvement with the Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC). As chairman of PCAC, Bob was instrumental in sharpening the system-wide focus on patient safety and quality and improving Board oversight for credentialing. His active participation and leadership of PCAC led to an appointment this past year as the only non-clinical member of the Clinical Issues Advisory Council for the Massachusetts Hospital Association.
In addition, Bob also served as a hospital corporator, chairman of the Nominating Committee, chairman of a subcommittee that led the effort to improve the credentialing process and as a member of the Compensation Committee.
"We are very fortunate to have Bob Kilroy serve as chairman of our Board of Trustees," says Milford Regional President and CEO Edward J. Kelly. "He is a gifted leader that will challenge and motivate our institution as we strive to provide excellence in healthcare. Our patients will be the benefactors of his focus on quality care and patient safety. We at Milford Regional are grateful for Bob's willingness to devote so much of his time and talent in service to our Medical Center."
"It is a great honor to be given the opportunity to serve as chairman of the Board and, in so doing, to work with an energetic and dedicated Board, as well as a first-class medical staff, hospital leaders and administrators for whom I have great respect," says Bob Kilroy. "During my affiliation with the Hospital, I have developed a deep admiration for the many front-line employees, nursing staff, physicians, hospital administrators and volunteers of the Hospital and Tri-County Medical Associates who daily provide exceptional patient care with dignity, compassion and respect to our growing and diverse patient population."
Both residents of Upton, Bob Kilroy and his wife, Deb, have two daughters, Shauna and Julia.
