Milford Regional Hosts Blood Drive
Milford Regional Medical Center will host a blood drive Friday, Nov. 18 from 9:30 – 3:30 p.m.
The blood drive, held in partnership with the American Red Cross, will be held in Milford Regional’s Physicians Conference Center on the ground floor of the main building.
The need for blood donors is constant. Following Hurricane Matthew last month, more than 50 blood drives and 1,800 donations were canceled. This blood drive will help replenish the blood supply and cover the need from Thanksgiving to the new year.
Blood donations help support patients fighting cancer, undergoing transplant surgeries and facing other serious, often unexpected, illnesses. The Red Cross must collect 14,000 blood donations every day to support cancer patients, transplant patients and others. Liver transplants are the second most common type of organ transplant and more than 7,000 liver transplants were performed in the United States last year. A single liver transplant patient may need more than 30 units of blood during surgery.
There is no artificial substitute for blood.
Walk-ins are welcome, and there is still time to make an appointment by registering at www.redcrossblood.org/RapidPass or by calling Camille Williams at (508) 422-2958.
