Marking a Milestone: Milford Regional Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Unveils New Building Expansion
Milford Regional Medical Center recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the $54 million building expansion project.
Named the Meehan Family Pavilion, this is Milford Regional’s largest expansion to date – a 78,000 square-foot addition that includes a new emergency department, intensive care unit and private patient rooms. The ribbon cutting was attended by state and local dignitaries including Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, State Sen. Ryan C. Fattman and State Rep. John V. Fernandes, as well as hundreds of financial supporters, medical staff and community members.
“The new building is a step toward our evolution of being the best health care system in the state,” said Francis M. Saba, CEO of Milford Regional Medical Center, noting the state-of-the-art facility provides a more modern and spacious environment for patients and medical staff. “The goal was to create a facility that helps us to improve the health and well-being of our patients. To see this manifested is a dream come true.”
The new two-story structure will more than double the size of the current emergency department from 30 to 52 private treatment rooms, increase the number of patient rooms in the ICU from 10 to 16 as well as increase the size of those rooms to accommodate the latest technology and add a 24-bed private room unit with the intent to convert all hospital patient rooms to private.
“It’s really simple –this addition is bigger and better. There is more room and more technology for our staff,” said Edward J. Kelly, president of Milford Regional Medical Center. “With this building becoming a reality, great care is going to get even better in the years to come.”
The $54 million project is funded through a combination of a fundraising campaign, equity/reserves from hospital operations and traditional financing. John J. Burns, chairman of the Board of Trustees and chairman of the Excellence Campaign, announced prior to the ribbon cutting that the fundraising campaign had surpassed its goal of raising $25 million for the project.
