As you prepare for the birth of your baby, we want to offer our assistance with childbirth education, sibling preparation, breastfeeding programs and support groups.

The more educated and confident you feel as you enter into this exciting time, the more positive your birth experience will be and Milford Regional offers many ways to help assure your success.

Childbirth Preparation and Education Programs

Milford Regional offers a choice of classes which focus on preparing mom and coach to deal knowledgeably and effectively with pregnancy, labor and delivery. Both evening and weekend programs cover physical and emotional changes during pregnancy, nutrition, signs and stages of labor, true and false labor, anesthesia choices, breathing techniques and information about birth by cesarean section.

4-Week Series

Next class: Tuesdays, 12/2-12/16 (3 weeks 6 to 9 pm) or 1/6 -1/27 or 2/10-3/3 or 3/17-4/7; or Thursdays 12/4-12/18 (3 weeks 6 to 9 pm) or 1/8-1/29 or 2/12-3/5 or 3/19-4/9

Perfect for first-time parents, this small group meets one night a week for four weeks from 6:30–9:00 p.m. This class will cover the material described above. $100 / Couple.

5-Week Series

Next class: Tuesdays, 12/2-12/16 and 12/30 (Thursday) or 1/6-2/3 or 2/10-3/10 or 3/17-4/14 or Thursdays 12/4-12/18 and 12/30 or 1/8-2/5 or 2/12-3/12 or 3/19-4/16

In addition to the material covered in the 4-Week Series, this program includes the American Heart Association CPR for Family and Friends / Infant course. Participants will learn infant CPR and skills for relief of choking. The CPR component also includes information on recognizing life-threatening emergencies in infants, reducing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and preventing common infant injuries. $125 / Couple.

Weekend Program

Next class: December 6 & 7; January 10 & 11; February 7 & 8; March 7 & 8 or April 4 & 5 or May 2 & 3

For those whose schedule precludes a 4- or 5-week commitment, we offer this weekend program. This small group instruction covers the material described above in a Saturday and Sunday session from 1–5 p.m. There will be frequent breaks, refreshments and a variety of activities. $125 / Couple.

Preparing for Twins

Milford Regional Medical Center offers a special childbirth preparation program for those preparing for twins. The class covers physical and emotional changes during pregnancy, nutrition, signs and stages of labor, true and false labor, anesthesia choices, breathing techniques, information about birth by cesarean section and specific information for first-time parents who are preparing for two.

This one-time class meets on a Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm at Milford Regional. The cost is $125 per couple.

Refresher Class

Next class: Monday 12/1; Monday, 1/5; Monday, 2/2; Monday, 3/3 or Monday 4/6

Even if you’ve done this before, a refresher can be very helpful! This one-night class is held from 6:30–9:30 p.m. to review the basics of labor and delivery. Special emphasis is placed on breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as an update on recent changes in procedures and techniques. A discussion of sibling adjustment is included. $50 / Couple.

Baby & Me

Next class: Wednesday, 12/5; Wednesday, 1/7; Wednesday, 2/4; Wednesday 3/4; Wednesday, 4/1; or Wednesday, 5/6

For expecting parents who are unable to participate in one of our Childbirth Preparation programs, we offer this one-time, abbreviated class to provide helpful information on caring for mom and baby following delivery. Held the first Wednesday of each month from 10:00–11:30 a.m.
$20 / Couple.

Breast Feeding Class

Next class: Monday, 11/10 (eve); Wednesday, 12/3 (day); Monday, 12/8 (eve); Thursday, 1/15 (day) or Monday, 1/12 (eve); Thursday, 2/5 (day) or Monday 2/9 (eve); Thursday 3/5 (day) or Monday, 3/9 (eve)

This one-time class is held to help develop an understanding of the basic principles of breast feeding. Topics include: the benefits to mom and baby; how milk is produced; how to determine if your baby is getting enough; latch-on and proper positioning. Old myths will be dispelled with the findings of current research. The afternoon session is held 1–3 p.m. and the evening class from 7–9 p.m. Support person is encouraged to attend. $40.

Sibling Class

Next class: Wednesday, December 4; Wednesday, January 7; Wednesday, February 4; Wednesday, March 4; or Wednesday, April 1

sibling classBeing a big brother or sister is very exciting! This one-hour session for siblings 3–12 years old helps to familiarize them with The Maternity Center and to discuss their new and important role. Held the first Wednesday of each month from 4–5 p.m. $10 / Family.

You will be placed according to your due date and we will notify you by mail of your class assignment and location. Mother Talk Group

New moms can often use someone to talk to! This group for mothers of infants from newborn to eight months provides an opportunity for moms to discuss their feelings and share ideas about mothering. Babies are welcome and registration is not required. Held the first Wednesday of each month from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Free.

 

Teen Pregnancy Program

Teen mothers-to-be (up to 19 years of age) meet in a comfortable, supportive setting to gain knowledge about their baby’s growth, changes to expect, legal issues, birth control, nutrition and exercise. Teens may bring one friend. This program is held the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month from 3–5 p.m. Please call 508-473-1190, extension 5076. The group is free, but registration is required.
